The owners of Hill Top Farm, Roger and Lesley Marsden are both proud natives born in Lancashire. Having worked in long and varied professional careers in the UK and internationally, they decided to finally return to their roots in 2012 when they bought Hill Top Farm. “The very first moment we saw the farm we fell in love with it. We both knew immediately it was our dream location and we then embarked on a long and demanding project to create the wonderful place it is today.”
There were 2 main phases, one to demolish the rickety stone outbuildings to create Meadow Cottage and the other to totally demolish the existing farmhouse to create the new main house at Hill Top. There was a lot of ‘history’ to the site, and so every effort was made to reclaim and preserve as much of the old stone and some design features, whilst constructing totally new buildings from the ground up with all modern techniques and conveniences. Both Hill Top Farm and Meadow Cottage have been built using the very best of local trades people and with quality fixtures and fittings to ensure a lovely quality holiday experience.
“Every single day we gaze at the stunning views across the valley – come sun, rain, mist, or snow – sunset or moonlight and marvel at our good fortune in finding this amazing place. We love to share this with guests coming to Meadow Cottage”
Roger handles administration, guest relations & marketing and shares some of the support work for Meadow Cottage. Being on site he is normally on hand to deal with any practical issues or problems arising. Lesley has retired from a long and successful career in the international fashion industry but still maintains a keen interest in all matters related to design, interiors and fabrics. This is hopefully reflected in the ambience of Meadow Cottage and she is now fully engaged in hands on running it as a true luxury guest experience.
“We have both done a lot of travelling in connection with our past careers and fully understand the perils and pitfalls of using hotel and guest accommodation. We have hopefully used this knowledge to ensure a truly marvellous guest experience at Meadow Cottage.”
