Hill Top Farm is literally on the top of a hill. At over 500ft it offers probably one of the best views in the whole of Lancashire. With an amazing 180 ° vista ranging from the North Wales Hills, Fylde Coast and Blackpool Tower (see the illuminations in September/ October / November) Morecambe Bay, Beacon Fell, Parlick Fell, Chipping and Dunsop Bridge.
Situated conveniently on the edge of the Forest of Bowland area of natural beauty, Hill Top Farm House and Meadow Cottage are located in the centre of 17 acres of farm grazing land. Cows are in the fields from April till October and sheep usually from October till April. In Summer, the cows will often come up to the back-garden fence of Meadow Cottage and watch you through your kitchen windows.
Wildlife love Hill Top Farm. We currently have 2 breeding families of pheasants living in our wooded copse. Most evenings you can see pheasant cocks shepherding their hens and chicks back to the nest for the night. ‘Barny’ the local barn owl can be seen scouring the meadows for prey on Autumn / Winter evenings just before dusk. We have a family of hares and numerous rabbits and, on many evenings, one can see young roe deer grazing on the summer meadow grass. The only unwelcome resident is ‘Sammy the Stoat’ – a cunning blighter who annoyingly pillages the hatching eggs laid by mallard ducks from the nearby reservoir.
Hill Top Farm is literally across the road from a lovely Water Board reservoir which is home to many types of migrating birds and ducks, with day fly fishing permits available from nearby Spar shop. We are also blessed with a beautiful 200 metre tree lined private drive with secure electric gate-controlled access giving you additional peace of mind of a tranquil uninterrupted stay.
Hill Top Farm and Meadow Cottage are owned by Roger & Lesley Marsden. Roger & Lesley live on-site in the main Hill Top Farm House adjoining and will usually be immediately on hand to address any problems or queries that might arise.
